Programs:
The CERL is considered a “critical” research
lab where environmental conditions for plants growth such as temperature,
light, and humidity can be maintained with precision. The staff strives to
limit any equipment failures to a maximum of 4 hours. The facility is
checked daily and a service technician is on call 24 hours a day. |
| Size and Location: The Controlled Environmental Research Labs
of the Plant and Soil Science Department are located on the main campus of
Oklahoma State University. The main lab, CERL is located on Farm Road,
while the Plant Transformation Lab and the Plant Pathology Lab are located
in the Noble Research Center. |
| Site: The CERL consists of 16 large and 1 medium size growth chambers. The large chambers have 3.3m2 of tray space with 960 micromoles/m2/s of lighting. Some of the chambers have a high intensity lighting feature with 1320 micromoles/m2/s. Most of our chambers have a humidity control option and temperature ranges from 4 to 45C. A full color spectrum of light is supplied by a combination of high intensity fluorescent tubes and incandescent bulbs. The lights have the option of 4 to 8 programmable levels to simulate natural dawn to dusk lighting levels. The Plant Pathology and Plant Transformation Labs meet similar specifications. |
